INTRODUCTION

Gematria is the numerical value of words based on the sum of the numerical value of the letters.  Both Hebrew and Greek have no Arabic numerals.  In ancient times they used letters as numbers (see bottom of page for a list).  Every Greek and Hebrew word had a plain meaning based on its arranged letters, plus a numerical value based on the sum of the letters’ numerical values.

The premise of Gematria is the Holy Scripture has the amazing property that we can map both ways:

Word – – – > Number

Number – – – > Word

If you know the word, you can calculate the number.

If you know the number, you can work back to a meaning expressed in words.

In addition to words having numerical values, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, and whole books in the Bible have numerical values.

Needless to say, it is a complex task to reduce large numerical values representing collections of words to their meanings.  This is simplified by expressing large numbers in terms of their prime factors.  Each prime factor has a unique meaning.  A collection of prime factors defines the meaning of the word, phrase, verse, chapter, and book.  Sometimes with many prime factors there are many possible meanings.  Also, some prime numbers are larger than the ones with known meanings.  We have overcome these issues by first identifying the Gematria meanings of phrases of small numbers of words.

Examples of applying the numerical meanings to phrases in Scripture are provided for the book of 2 John and other passages (see above).

The Gematria meanings must have direct relevance to the written meaning of the phrases.  The study above shows this.  In fact, the meaning of the Gematria of phrases in the book of 2 John is quite pertinent to the book’s message.  This is a powerful demonstration the underlying meanings of the spiritual numbers is correct.  Were it not so, the numerical meanings would be gibberish compared to the written meaning of the phrases.

The study of Gematria is a very advanced application of spiritual numbers.  Unless you are knowledgeable in spiritual numbers (that would be very few of you) and unless you have a deep grasp of the whole body of Scriptures from decades of study (again, very few qualify), we do not recommend you draw conclusions from personal Gematria studies.  We recommend you start by studying God’s truth in the Scriptures, the stars, and spiritual numbers.  Then progress to God’s truth in creation and geography.  After all this, then work on Gematria.

A list of meanings of numbers is provided in the side panel to the right on your screen.  Down-loadable versions of spiritual number maps is provide on the home page of this site: Home Page

Hello, my name is Khaira Iman, I have searched for the gematria of my name but I don’t know its symbolic meaning, does anyone know?🤔☺

      No. Sorry.

Blessings brother Mark. Tonight – well actually yesterday now – God showed me 649 in two obvious ways. I have spent hours following promptings with the desire to understand what He could be saying. So, here am I on your splendid site. He often speaks to me in numbers. What does Factor 1, Factor 2 mean? Also, if our given name isn’t Hebrew or Greek, there isn’t any Gematria relevance to it, correct?? Thank you from a sister in the faith and fellow Canadian. Cindy Psalm 145:11-12

    • mark h lane February 2, 2024 at 7:20 am #

Hi Cindy. It is your right to eat the hidden mana and enjoy a blessing in your spirit. I can help. The prime factors of 649 are 11 and 59. 649 = 11 * 59. You can call 11 ‘factor 1’ and 59 ‘factor 2’. Those are just arbitrary names. Usually I find the largest prime factor has the most influence in the meaning. The Bible is always the litmus test of a number’s meaning. The 649th chapter of the Bible is Proverbs 21. Verse 6 says ‘A fortune is made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare’. I assigned the meaning to 649 as “ILL-GOTTEN GAIN CURSED”. How is this related to 11 and 59? Bible number 11 means “DARKNESS” and 59 means “RICH OPPRESSOR”. The 59th chapter of the Bible is Exodus 9, which includes the plague on the livestock, the plague of boils, and the plague of hail. All the animals and crops of the Egyptians either perished or were infected by disease by these three plagues. Indeed this was a DARK DAY for the RICH OPPRESSOR of Egypt, chiefly the Pharoah. It was judgment on him because he could not find it in his heart to permit the Hebrews freedom of worship. How can we say the Pharoah was a liar? Not this Pharoah but a prior Pharoah promised the Hebrews the best land in Egypt. This Pharoah broke the oath and made the Hebrews his slaves. The sum of the three digits of 649 is 6+4+9 = 19. The 19 chapter of the Bible is the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah. Similar story, S&G persecuted newcomers and made their life a misery. God judged them. In most lands throughout history the rich have wielded the most power and sway. This in itself is not evil. Unless they abuse their power and trod down on the weak and marginalized in society. 3. Marcos May 20, 2023 at 11:52 am #

Hi Mark I have a question I have been getting dreams everyday for nearly 4 months after getting prophecied over a mam the numbers I can remember seeing are 650 and 190 and 180 what is the meaning of this?

    • mark h lane May 22, 2023 at 1:15 pm #

Hi Marcos. Have you ever heard of ‘speaking in tongues’? Numbers are another language, the tongue of angels. The list of meanings of numbers is on a link at the top of every page on the website. Personally if a number makes an impression on me I don’t look at the list, I read the Bible chapter of the number. Genesis =1, Exodus = 2, etc. Then I let the Spirit speak through the Bible to me. So rather than for me to tell you what it means, look up the Bible number meanings, read the relevant Bible chapters and ask God to explain it. Blessings. servant mark

    What’s the Gematria of 24?

    • mark h lane April 26, 2023 at 5:22 am #

Hi Sean. Gematria is the numerical value of letters in the Hebrew and Greek alphabet. There is a meaning of the number 24 that you can find on the side panel on the right hand side of every page on the site. Or, click the link at the top of the page. The meaning of 24 is PRIEST. Blessings s/m

      • Sean April 26, 2023 at 11:18 am #

Thank You. I have one more question. What is the Number associated with ” Prophet”?

        • mark h lane April 26, 2023 at 4:31 pm #

Hi Sean. It is number 76. The 76th chapter in the Bible is Exodus 26 which gives the dimensions of the Tabernacle. The 76th verse in the Bible is Genesis 3 v 22. 76 = 2 x 38 = 4 x 19 which translates as ‘Division'(2) of the ‘Harlot’ (38) or as ‘Message’ (4) of ‘Faith’ (19). The duty of the Priest is to teach the truth about God and encourage the faithful. Blessings s/m

  5. Kelly October 10, 2021 at 12:21 pm #

My name is Kelly and my Gematria number in Hebrew is 455. I don’t know what it means though. My middle name is Diane and my number is 59.
Please, I truly desire to know and understand this.

    • mark h lane October 14, 2021 at 7:34 am #

Hello Kelly. Your name is English not Hebrew. We don’t advise that you transliterate your name into Hebrew then take the count of the value of the Hebrew letters to imply anything about your character or your destiny. What we know is you are a unique special creation of God and precious to Him. He sent Jesus to explain the Way to the Father. We encourage you to read the Gospels and allow the Spirit to feed your spirit with Truth. If you do this it won’t be long before you meet Jesus, the most worthy friend to ever have and to hold. Dear Mark, I do not have a comment, I have a question, which I am not sure that you have the time to attend to.
However, if you do, I will greatly appreciate it.
I am a 71 year old believer, living in Johannesburg, South Africa. As a very young child, at the age of five, these words came to me, very clearly. I was walking back to my classroom after break, and a male voice said to me ‘the number 5 is written over your life’ I have never forgotten it and the sound of that voice is still in my ears. No one could assist me with the meaning, except that the number 5 presents grace. Not so according to your list of meanings. I regret coming towards the end of my life and not understanding this deeply enough as I believe it is very meaningful. A child of 5 cannot conjure up those words, or use such terminology. I will appreciate your input.

    • mark h lane July 21, 2020 at 11:39 am #

Hello Marelie. Touching story. As I have reflected back on my pilgrimage with the LORD I realize how near He was long before I ever consciously accepted Him as my Savior. Some of the prophets felt His presence from the womb. So I believe the LORD could have spoken clearly to you at a young age. I attribute the meaning ‘Weakness’ to the number 5. That is not a bad thing to have ‘written over your life’ since ‘when we are weak, He is strong.’ Another connotation of 5 is ‘Life’, meaning ‘Life that has breath’, not plant life, and not ‘spiritual life’. On the fifth day of Creation God made all the ‘living creatures’. In Genesis 5 there is the account of the descendants of Adam. I note that those men lived long full lives. You also have attained a full age. The 5th chapter of the New Testament is Matthew 5, which shines forth the meaning of 5 from the LORD’s own lips: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.’ (etc.) 5 is the number of Weakness in this life; but hints at abundance in the next life for those the LORD calls to carry that yoke. We could say, I am stretching it here, that the number 5 was ‘written over the life [LIFE = 5]’ of both Adam and Jesus. Adam was after all a dirt scraper, hand sower, and weed puller. He worked by the sweat of his brow – before tools were invented. Jesus left Heaven’s glory and became a homeless vagabond, picking up fruit falls and scuffing off the husks of raw grains with his hands for food. Both Adam and Jesus experienced a fall from a privileged height and lived a lowly life of service. I don’t know anything about your personal history, but I was a farmer myself for many years. Dodged near death from accidents and animal attacks many times. Gained much and lost much. The best of times and the worst of times. But I’m still alive. And looking forward to the next life. Blessings. Servant Mark

      • Marelie July 22, 2020 at 12:14 pm #

Thank you Mark. It makes absolute sense. I have had extreme highs, but mostly very low lows in my life. Many tears. Many mistakes often more through pressure of difficult circumstances than by conscious choice. Many misunderstandings. Often incorrectly assessed and interpreted. Many abilities that have not had the opportunity to flourish due to many factors. I serve, and realise that serving in the background, attracting no attention, is best for me.
This have brought great consolation to me.

        • mark h lane July 22, 2020 at 9:56 pm #

He is the Man of Sorrows. To share in this is a precious gift. Suffering is a curtain into His presence no fiery angel can ever trespass. I once had a vision of rejoicers in the presence of the LORD in Heaven. They were all missing arms, or legs, or eyes. He had prepared a banqueting table just for them. Wouldn’t that be a more splendid eternity? To banquet with the LORD? Let the ‘holy men’ have their streets of gold, and ever-fruiting trees. Give me Jesus. Please just hold me close dear Lord. And never let me go.

the year is 2020, the coronavirus is running rapid thru the world. just out of curiousity i looked up on the computer the word corona. what i found astonished me. i love the Bible and i go to it for the truth. according to what i think i am finding is that the number meaning of corona is found in Hebrews they say it means the prohibition against eating the limb of a living creature. i have heard that this virus was started in China by a man eating a BAT. this is far fetched , what is your thinking. thank you in advance

    • mark h lane March 28, 2020 at 9:14 am #

Hello Kathy. Corona is a constellation. You will find our teaching on Corona on our page STARS. Corona means ‘Crown’. The ancients associated Corona with the olive wreath – the victor’s crown. The Bible associates Corona with the Cup of Blessing which Jesus offered his apostles at the Last Supper. It was a Cup of Blessing to us but it was a Cup of Suffering to Jesus, for the day following was his crucifixion. So spiritually Corona signifies the struggle between Good and Evil for rule in men’s hearts and minds. Although in this conflict the saints will suffer, God will restore us and reward us with a blessing. As far as 2020 goes, the 2020th chapter of the Bible is Ezekiel 29 where the LORD says “the land of Egypt shall become desolate… neither foot of man or foot of beast shall pass through it.” (v. 9-11). This is what we see. The whole world is on lock-down. No one is setting foot outside. Every chapter in the Bible corresponds to a year. There are 1189 chapters in the Bible. So to count to 2020 you start at Genesis 1, go all the way through, then start back at Genesis 1 as the 1190th chapter and keep counting. You will get to 2020 at Ezekiel 29 which is the 831st chapter. 831 plus 1189 equals 2020.

    • VinceD March 28, 2020 at 5:10 pm #

So do you believe that 2020 is the beginning of the end.? Or is it that God is making the world a better place and we will be rewarded after.?

      • mark h lane March 28, 2020 at 11:12 pm #

Please read the paper ‘The Seventh Day’ on the PROPHECY page of the site. On the ‘Seventh Day’ no one will go outside. And this has come true before our eyes. It is a sign to believers the end is truly near. The Biblical number 7 means ‘THE END’. The paper was posted in 2017 – long before anyone heard about Corona virus. In 2030 we will pass the two millennium mark since the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Peter wrote that a prophetic ‘Day’ is a thousand years. Jesus rose early on the third day. 2031 will be the beginning of the third ‘Day’, the third millennium after Christ’s death & resurrection. Many other papers in the PROPHECY page support this notion, but we have long since entered the beginning of the end and we are coming close to the rapture of the saints. It is now possible for the rapture to happen in our lifetimes – if we live that long – because many will not survive to be alive when it happens. As Jesus warned the time of the end will be truly terrible. Blessings. Servant Mark

  9. Toni Dunston January 4, 2018 at 11:09 pm #

As I was sleeping one night, I clearly heard a voice say, ” 8 is your number”. I’ve learned that the number 8 means new beginnings. I just happened to come across this and learned the #8 mean Gematria. I really would like to understand this better.

    • mark h lane January 5, 2018 at 1:14 pm #

Hi Toni. 8 = 2 ^ 3 (cubed). 2 means DIVISION. 3 means BINDING. We say that 8 means NEW MAN or REBORN MAN. If Christ is your Lord and Savior then you worship One God. A carnal man is driven and blown by the wind and the tossing of the seas. But a man with the Spirit of God has a rock, a solid foundation, an anchor. A spiritual man sees what pleases the Lord and what does not. A carnal man is blind and falls into sin and temptation. So, with a REBORN MAN there is no more DIVISION. DIVISION is BOUND by the Spirit in his heart. He has One God. He knows where he is going after this life. He has peace. Not division. He wants to please God. The carnal man is 6 = 2 x 3 which means DIVISION of BINDING. The carnal man has a tendency to sin, to DIVIDE (or rebel) against God’s Law: his BINDING or his requirement on how we are to live. The carnal man has no rock, no foundation, no peace, no future, no hope in the next life. So, Toni. I sincerely hope you have confessed your sin to God and asked forgiveness by the merit of Jesus’ death on the Cross. If so, “8 will be your number”. If not, then I am sorry you will be tossed too and fro by the waves until such time. Incidentally, anything cubed is holy. The reborn man is holy, because he is set apart to God. Blessings. servant mark

Hello, I have a question for you. I keep seeing numbers 222,333,444,555,111,911 constantly! What might be your take on this? I know that I am not alone on this, as many many others do to. Thank you, Sheila

    • mark h lane November 6, 2017 at 7:48 am #

Hi Sheila. I don’t know why some people keep seeing numbers, especially the same numbers. I don’t know if the numbers they keep seeing have the same meaning as Bible numbers. For a short time this happened to me. I looked up the chapter in the Bible for the number I kept seeing and meditated on it. And it made sense in my life. But whether this would work for you or others like you I don’t know. It may just be a symptom of stress in your life. servant mark

Love all your research. My only objection is the timeline. I like Torah calendar’s timeline. We are already in the 120th jubilee this year. What are your views of their timeline ?

    • mark h lane January 26, 2015 at 9:24 am #

When Christ was crucified (at the end of Daniel’s 69th week) God’s dealings with Israel as his chosen people ceased – the veil in the Temple was torn in two. The prophetic clock based on the Jews stopped and will restart at the Rapture (beginning of Daniel’s 70th week) when God’s dealings with Israel will resume. The whole Age of Grace, between the Cross and the Rapture, is free time. During this era it is pointless to count jubilees or use any other Jewish measure of prophetic time. In keeping with this truth, Christ was clear that no one but the Father knows exactly when the Age of Grace will end, i.e. when the Rapture occurs. It can’t be predicted exactly because during the Age of Grace the usual Jewish time markers don’t apply. Having said that there are certain signs of the Rapture that we are to look for so we know we are getting close. Hope that helps. servant mark

I’ve been wondering what is gematria of Jeremiah chapter 23 vs 5 and 6, Thank you and God bless my brother.

    • mark h lane January 3, 2015 at 3:23 pm #

      Jeremiah 23:5 G = 3142 = 2 x 1571 [248th prime]
      Jeremiah 23:6 G = 3308 = 2 x 2 x 827 [144th prime]

Note: the 827th chapter in the Bible is Ezekiel 25 (the LORD promises to destroy all four of Israel’s nearest oldest enemies: Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Philistia).

Message me on Facebook for more information.

Hi Mark, I’m fully blessed brother in Adonai Yeshua HaMashiach. Now want to ask something, is gematria biblical and if so is for both jewish and gentile believers to study.

    • mark h lane May 18, 2014 at 10:29 am #

Brother, who am I to answer? But, in Revelations13 verse 18 it says “This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.” So, the New Testament teaches that names (or words made up of letters) correspond to numbers in such a way that they can be calculated (I presume by addition of the numerical value of the letters). The New Testament also says the meaning of the numbers requires insight of the ones who are wise (spirit filled). Thus, we have it on authority of Scriptures that God has put wisdom into the numbers of the names (i.e. words). Who would gain from such study? It would be anyone who seeks after the truth, Jew or Gentile. I will also say that attempts to translate Latin (or other languages) to determine the identity of the Beast is not where we are to look for truth. Only the translation of God-breathed Scriptures in Hebrew and Greek. Blessings. m h l

The french has two more letters :the letter C which sounds like in the english word “Cat” and the letter J like in the word “jump” . The question is what may be values of these two letters ? Is The bible translated into french theomaticaly pertinent andmeaningful ?

      Bonjours M. Oum,
      Enchantez de vous rencontrez.
For the purposes of interpreting the messages of God, the only writing acceptable for purposes of gematria interpretation is the Bible. The Bible, has been inspired by God in only two original languages: Hebrew and Greek. Revelations 22:18 warns us not to add to the Bible on pain of great judgments. So while it may be possible for coded messages to exist in non-Biblical texts based on gematria of other languages, such messages must never be interpreted to come from God. I have heard there is a gematria code for Latin, however for the reason just given I would not pay any attention to a gematria study of any piece of literature written in Latin: that message can not come from God. Scripture is closed. There are so many messages of wisdom and spiritual insight in the numbers and gematria of the two original languages of the Bible that thousands of scholars working thousands of years would not exhaust them all. I say, lets work with what we know for sure comes from God. In Canada we have a saying “skate fast on thin ice”. In other words, lets skate on the ice we know is solid. Finally, I do not believe there exists a gematria system which could interpret the letters of a foreign language even if the text is a translation of the Bible in that language.
      A votre service.

The question is what may be values of these two letters: C and H ? Do names in the Bible have a particular meaning; Enoch Joseph? An do you use extra biblical reference, like Book of Watchers, Enoch, etc and do they have any value?
        thx

        • mark h lane July 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm #

Yes names have a meaning both in the language and in their gematria value. For example ‘David’ in Hebrew means “beloved” and the gematria value of the three Hebrew letters in his name is 14 which means “Deliverance”. The Bible is true but there is also truth in other books. I would pay close attention to 1st Enoch for example because it is quoted in two places in the New Testament. May God bless your search for truth.
